3D (stereoscopic) displays provide imagery with a realistic sense of depth bydisplaying different images to each of the user’s eyes (in a similar way that oureyes see the real world ie. from two slightly different points of view). Stereoscopicdisplays generally require the viewer to wear red/blue or polarizing glasses, in orderto perceive the 3D effect.

With Insight Media’s autostereoscopic technology, images can be perceived withoutthe need for cumbersome glasses or other viewing aids. Additionally, the (multiview)displays are not limited to a single viewer – all viewers can enjoy the same high-quality 3D impression from their different viewing positions. They can move freelywithin the observing space and still benefit from a high-quality image.

Standard 3D content (requiring 3D glasses) has not to date been playable onautostereoscopic, multiview screens, because of the increased number of viewingperspectives.

A conversion (or rendering) process is required, however, Insight Media workingwith industry leading software developers have developed a number of softwareand content management tools to facilitate this process. Bespoke content can beeasily created or converted for display on this type of screen and 2 view content fromBlueray and shortly from satellite feeds can now be viewed on the Insight Mediaglasses free displays.
